Last week we talked about Canada and their opponents on matchday 1, host team of the 2020 Olympics, Japan. This week we look at Canada’s biggest rival, the #1 ranked women’s team in the World, the USA and their matchday 1 opponents, #5 ranked Sweden.
With stars like Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavalle, and Alex Morgan, the team is stacked with talent from many of the top clubs around the world.
The USWNT have been dominating all comers over the last few years and come into the tournament on a 39-game unbeaten run. 39 GAMES!!! The equivalent of going an entire Premier League season unbeaten, plus one game for good measure.
Even to those who do not follow the women’s game closely, it would not be a surprise to most that the USA comes in as the favorites to win the 2020 Olympic Gold medal. Simply calling them another ‘One To Watch’ would not be doing them justice. There is no question that they are the favorites to win the Gold in Tokyo. Teams like their main rivals Canada, the hosts Japan, or even their matchday 1 opponents Sweden certainly have a chance to knock the Americans off the top of the podium, but the US Women’s National Team is THE team to watch for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Check out the squad for their pre-Olympic camp, it is chock full of talent!
Let's get this summer started! 💥
